Jeffrey Thompson, MD
Class of 2008

Current Position: Attending Physician, Professional Emergency Services (Millard Fillmore Gates/Millard Fillmore Suburban Emergency Departments, and per diem at the Erie County Medical Center and Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY); Clinical Instructor, Emergency Medicine Residency (Reading group leader for the Class of 2011)

Best part of residencyI greatly enjoyed the chance to train in so many different hospital settings. From the trauma center at ECMC to the pediatric facility at Children's and a rural site at Brooks, this experience was invaluable in preparing me (and my colleagues) for any type of practice after residency. I thought the ability to choose a scholarly track and pursue a specific interest was a great way to fulfill our scholarly activity. Best of all were the great colleagues, both attendings and residents, who have become great friends and mentors.
Best part of Buffalo: Buffalo is a terrific city! The population is quite culturally diverse (we have the highest percentage of incoming foreign refugees in the state), the city has great seasonal festivals, and a rich architectural history. Sports fans can enjoy NHL and NFL teams along with many other sporting events throughout the year. Buffalo can boast a great outdoor summer concert series as well as a world-class philharmonic orchestra. Let's not forget the snow - we have four distinct seasons which allow year-round activities.

Research Projects During Residency

1) Smoking Cessation in Emergency Department Patients

2) CPC Case - Accepted, 2008 SAEM Annual Meeting
